As Shopping Editor for Grazia Magazine, Lily Russo is a woman who knows how to curate a wardrobe. The stylist for our S/S ’16 campaign, we managed to quiz Lily on set, in between camera flashes and makeup top-ups, on her top tips for making your summer a stylish one.
What is your earliest fashion memory?
My mother would always dress my sister and I up in matching clothes and put our hair in rollers, so I have always loved dressing up. My earliest fashion memory is a pair of little white fringed ankle boots that I had when I was 4 and I was absolutely in love with them.
Wearing print can be an intimidating prospect for some. How do you approach putting together an outfit together with boldly printed pieces?
Start by deciding what print you want to wear and then work from there. When I wear print, I tend to keep my outfit quite tonal, or I’ll pair a bright print with blue denim or leather as it gives it a more contemporary feel.
As a stylist, packing for a holiday must be a carefully considered event. What are your top tips?
My general rule is: if it’s a choice between taking more or less, always take more. Wherever I go, I always like to have more clothes than I probably need. You never know if the weather is going to change or if there will be an unexpected event that you need a nice dress for. In summer, I generally focus my holiday packing on bikinis, dresses that you can throw on day or night, and a great neutral pair of leather sandals that will go with everything else. That’s really all you need!
What is your failsafe holiday outfit?
If it’s a beach holiday, it’s all about swimwear during the day, but if you opt for a one piece, you can throw on a high-waisted skirt and add some earrings to instantly create a look to take you from beach to bar.
What is your favourite look from the S/S ‘16 campaign?
It would have to be the shot of our model Isabelle in the Iris Coral Pink bikini by the pool, lying on top of the matching Iris scarf. It really captures the essence of Lily and Lionel and of this collection.
