Every time Paris Fashion Week comes around, it reminds us how we wish we could be a little more Parisian. For tips on how to make it happen, we sat down with Nathalie Constanty. As Consultant for Le Bon Marché, the most chic department store in the world's most sartorially-gifted city, Nathalie is a woman who knows how Parisian style is done.
"The Parisian's style is chic and very understated."
Accessories are very important to styling the typical Parisian look, which consists of the essential pair of jeans, the iconic white shirt or a simple but good quality t-shirt, and a blazer or trench.
Key accessories for any Parisian are the bag (which carries her life!), the flat shoes (ballet pumps, Converse or men's shoes), the rather over-sized sunglasses and, of course, a scarf. Parisians love scarves - not too big though - and wear them for any occasion. A scarf adds this little touch of colour and style to the look without making any "fashion faux pas".They can even wear it on their head if it rains, like Catherine Deneuve.
I'm getting ready for the new season with Formentera Magenta [coming soon]. The subtle print and colour combination add to the nonchalance of the Parisian look. Personally, this summer, I'm going to style it as a turban to achieve that 70's cool look for the beach and protect me from the sun at the same time.
