We've long been obsessed with the sartorial choices of fashion stylist Martha Ward. This is a woman who knows her way around a good silhouette and a bold print - something we love and admire above all else here at Lily and Lionel.
After starting her illustrious career at Tatler under the mentorship of icons Kate Reardon and Natalie Massanet, Martha has gone onto style starlets like Sienna Miller and work with renowned photographers such as David Bailey and Rankin. We were delighted to sit down with Martha and talk travel, trends and talismans...
Lily and Lionel scarves make great travel companions- from the plane to the beach. What are your travel essentials?
Number 1 genuinely is a scarf! I am almost always cold so a wrap-up-warm accessory is essential. As is a lip balm, an eye mask and a good book and a pile of magazines.
Where’s your favourite travel destination?
I do love a lie down in a calm and restful place, ideally on a beach. And I'm not sure I could isolate one special place as I have so many favourites! From the south of France to Bali, to the Caribbean; and if there are local shops to browse, then I will find them and love nothing more than a rummage in a foreign place. tho having said that, there's nothing more thrilling than a new city. And a trip to New York will forever excite me as I love it so much.
London is the home of Lily and Lionel, share with us one of your secret London finds?
I love a quintessentially english garden, and 2 old favourites of mine are Petersham Nurseries and the Chelsea Physic Garden. Bliss around May/June. There are also a smattering of brilliant vintage shops on Golborne Road, W10 and also around Brick Lane in east London. I recently discovered the library in the V&A and often frequent there for a silent retreat, followed by a lengthy browse around the incredible book shop there. Great for researching.
To celebrate the year of the horse, Lily and Lionel will be launching our exclusive Stallion scarf- what’s your talisman?
My bedside treasures are angels in all their form, and heart shaped stones. Can they be my talis'men'….??
What’s trend will you be embracing this season?
Longer length skirts, lace, florals and sugared almond shades have long been my passions so I'm more than thrilled that for once I am in keeping with the trends! It's my dream season.
