LILY AND LIONEL TAKES PART IN COUTTS' BEAUTIFUL BOXES AUCTION

Posted by Sabi in Collaborations with 0 comments

Coutts, one of the world's oldest banks, is running an auction to help the not-for-profit Holts Academy of Jewellery and The Prince's Foundation for Children and The Arts, an arts education program that works with disadvantaged children across the UK  to raise their confidence and equip them with vital life skills through the arts.

Along with the likes of Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, Theo Fennell and Paul Smith, Lily and Lionel was invited to design a jewellery box and we took on the task with relish!

Starting with the jewellery box sent to us by Coutts, our lead designer Bibi got to work creating our contribution to the cause.

Lily and Lionel is known for bold prints and bursts of colour, so for our jewellery box we decided to  re-create that trademark and offer an exclusive preview of one of our AW13 scarves at the same time! The principle colours of the piece are signature Lily and Lionel hues: orange and blue. Orange represents fun and warmth, whilst blue represents calm and tranquillity, all qualities that resonate with The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts.

The print features an abstract butterfly motif which lends itself well to the art of painting.  The box was delicately hand-painted by Bibi, who also created the original print, using acrylic paint to give the surface of the jewellery box a certain texture. Gold leaf detailing was added not just for dimension, but as a nod to the rich history of both Lily and Lionel and Coutts.

You can take part in the auction over on eBay - it's for a great cause!
